Surrender Application Information

We understand that surrendering your Labrador Retriever is a very difficult decision. Our team is here to support you with compassion and without judgment. This application helps us gather the information needed to assess your dog for acceptance into our program and determine the most appropriate next steps.

Eligibility

  • Surrender applications are prioritized for dogs located in Florida.

  • Due to insurance restrictions, we cannot accept Labradors mixed with breeds considered dangerous.

  • We only accept mixed breed dogs that are predominantly Labrador Retriever.

Important

  • Submitting an application form does not guarantee acceptance.

  • We must have an open foster home before your dog can be accepted.

  • This process takes time.  If you need immediate placement for your dog, we recommend contacting your local humane society for faster assistance.

How the Surrender Process Works

  1. Application – You submit this surrender application.
    • Please answer all questions honestly and thoroughly so we can properly evaluate your request.
    • As part of the application, you will need three photos
      • Headshot
      • Full body, facing front
      • Full body, side view
  2. Volunteer Contact – Within days of submitting your surrender application, an SSLR volunteer will contact you to discuss your dog and explain next steps in the surrender process.
  3. In Home Evaluation – If we have potential foster space available, your dog will be evaluated by an SSLR volunteer. The evaluation is typically conducted in your home, but in special circumstances may occur at another mutually agreed location.
  4. Veterinary Records – You must provide all of the dog’s veterinary records. If you do not have copies, your veterinarian can usually email them directly to you.
  5. Transfer of Ownership – If the in-home evaluation results are positive and we have an available foster home, then we will arrange a date to take custody of the dog.
